According to a study conducted,parents who smoke contribute to preventable deaths of at least 6,200 children a year. One important choice parents can make for their children is the choice to quit smoking in order to prevent indirect cause of damage to their child. Research states, More children are killed by parental smoking than by all unintentional injuries combined


What are the benefits when Parents decide to quit Smoking?

When you quit smoking, you’ll be giving your children a real advantage over children of smokers. Smoking adversely increases or worsens common problems like cold, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections asthma and allergies. Studies conducted show that children of smokers often develop a chronic cough as they grow older.

You can prevent this condition by deciding to quit smoking. If you’re a woman planning to have more children, the advantages of quitting are even greater: Children born to mothers who smoke have lower birth weights and higher rates of premature birth, brain damage, crib death and learning problems than those whose mothers didn’t smoke during pregnancy. According to studies, 2,800 deaths a year are attributable to low birth weight caused by mothers who smoke during pregnancy.

Your own health will also improve when you quit, giving you more energy to deal with the challenges your children are sure to provide.

By Quitting smoking you will be setting an example to your child. Your child looks up to you and imitates every action of yours. Statistics show that children whose parents smoke are twice as likely to smoke as children of nonsmokers.

Recently scientists have detected cancer-causing chemicals associated with tobacco smoke in the urine of nearly half the babies of smoking parents. This finding is scary. Smoking not only triggers cancer-causing agents in you but your child as well.
