3 out of every 100 children tend to suffer from a condition called Encropresis. It is a  condition that tends to hamper a child’s self esteem greatly and is very often found amongst the boys than the girls.

What Is Encropresis?

A condition where a child has no control over their bowl movements. Children suffering from this condition tend to defecate anywhere and everywhere. They tend to soil their underwear or bed often.

Passing of the stool happens unconsciously, wherein the child has no absolute control at what he is doing.

Three signs Of Encropresis

1)    When the child has control over the bowl movement, but tends to defecate at inappropriate places.
2)    When the child has no control over his bowl movement and does not know when and where he defecates.
3)    When the child defecates due to fluid faeces.

Consequences

A child suffering from encropresis suffers from a battered self-esteem. This is because this condition is unknown to many, especially teachers and parents. And they in turn criticize and put down the child hoping that he will get over the condition when meted out with punishment.

Also, these children tend to suffer from genital infections as they try to hide up the soiling and don’t even change their underwear out of fear that they will be punished.

Constant bullying at school prevents them from going to school and they miss out on studies.

Sometimes parents tend to reject and avoid their child, out of disgust to this condition. This in turn leads to sever psychological disorders in the children.

It is therefore, very important that these children be given appropriate psychological treatment as soon as possible. Doing so will greatly bolster a child’s self worth.
