Along with water and fire, electricity can pose a threat to kids who can unknowingly touch or meddle with the electric stuff. For kids under the age 4, precautions should for electrical safety. Older kids can be educated regarding the dangers of electricity and they can be guided to use the electrical appliances safely.
Children under 4 years should be monitored closely by parents to prevent electrical hazards. Child safety gates which can block access to certain areas of your home. Kids electrical safety is also important outdoors where kids can come into electrical wires while playing.
Tips For Kids Electrical Safety:
Here are a few tips to electrical safety for kids:
- Kids should be kept away from electrical outlets. Inserting objects into the socket can result in a shock. To avoid this, parents can use socket covers or outlet covers. The socket covers are made of plastic and they can cover the exposed socket. Older kids can be taught to stay away from electrical outlets
- Kids should be taught not to handle or play with the electrical appliances. Breaking open or tampering with the electrical appliance result in a shock.
- Bathroom can be hazardous to kids due to electrical appliances, sockets and water. Kids should be taught not to touch any electrical appliance in the bathroom. It is also better to remove electrical appliances such as hair straighteners, dryers etc. from the bathroom after use
- Kids should be taught to keep away from live electrical wires while they are outdoors. They should not climb trees which have power lines near them. Kids should be taught not to retrieve the kites, balloons etc. which are struck near the electric wires
- Kids should be taught not to touch electrical equipment with wet hands. Pulling of the electrical chords from the socket should not be done. Instead older kids can be taught to gently remove the plug from the wire
Electricity can be dangerous to kids, but proper precautions and guidance can keep them safe from it.
