Generally, being a parent of a teen is difficult but it becomes more difficult to parent teens that require foster care. Trusting others becomes very difficult for the teen that needs to be in foster care

  • Teens who are born with physical and mental disabilities.
  • Teens who are in an unethical group and take drugs.

  • Before becoming a foster parent, check all the required state background and take the training of becoming a foster parent. You can take the training by attending the local placement agency.
  • Set rules and guidelines. Explain to your teen about his/her role and responsibilities and be flexible when explaining your guidelines.
  • Assure your teen that gaining education is the first priority for both you and them. Help him/her in doing their homework and show an interest in extracurricular activities.
  • Make sure that you understand your teen’s feelings and emotions. Always remember that the child is coming from a different place or different background and it will be difficult to adjust in the new environment. Give them time to settle down
  • Talk to them and discuss issues like sex, drugs and alcohol. Keep a check on them seen as though they are coming from a background where they can  easily  fall back into their old ways
