In order to make the change to lead a healthy lifestyle, start with the things that you can do when you are at a store.

  • Check the all expiry dates on every package
  • See the nutritional explanations
  • Separate and ignore the ready-to-eat foods
  • Read the labels

What are the things you can do at home?

  • Wash your hands and disinfect often
  • Wash meats, fruits and vegetables before using
  • Cook all the foods at a safe temperature
  • Follow the cooking directions
  • Serve food in a safe way e.g. place hot soup on a tray
  • Whenever you have doubt about the validity of food, throw the food away

Why You Need Healthy Food?

There are certain nutrients that your child’s body needs in order to produce energy.  There are six types of nutrients found in food, which provide your child’s body with energy:- Proteins, Carbohydrates, Fats, Vitamins, Water and Minerals

This following are the different food groups that your child needs to have for a healthy lifestyle:

Group 1:

Fats, oils and sugars

Group 2:

Milk, yoghurt, cheese, meat, fish, egg and nuts

Group 3:

Vegetable and fruit group

Group 4:

Bread, cereal, rice and pasta

It is important to have three healthy meals a day – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Stay away from fast foods and junk foods and from overeating the three white groups which are salt, sugar and flour.  Always ensure that your child has a water bottle with him/her.

If you want your child to lead a healthy lifestyle and have a healthy body, you need to act before it is too late. Remember, how your child lives when they are young is the kind of adults they will become.
