- While you can prepare beforehand for being a new parent by going to classes etc., nothing can prepare you for your first experience of parenting except doing it.
- Be prepared to have interrupted sleep patterns, since new babies will wake up frequently during the night to be fed.
- A new baby is completely dependent on his parents. This is a big responsibility. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times.
- Try to establish a routine once you see the sleeping and eating patterns of your new baby. This will help you and your partner to share the duties and both get some much needed rest.
- Try to restrict visitors in the beginning and never wake your baby up so someone can see it. This could cause baby to have disrupted sleep patterns for some time.
- Remember that being a parent is one of the most challenging experiences in life. Don’t expect yourself to be perfect. Being a new parent is a learning experience.
- Try to get some time to yourself. It is easy to get exhausted as a new parent.
- Enjoy your child’s babyhood. It will be gone before you know it!
