Baby Personality Types

Children have different personalities. Some are highly sensitive, self absorbed/defiant, inattentive or active/aggressive.

Highly sensitive

  • These type of children are very sensitive to any slight changes around. They are likely to be fearful and cautious. They need lot of support in new circumstances. These children are likely to be clingy in new circumstances and may not explore in new situations. They can drift into depression easily and have mood swings.
  • These children are very perceptive. They are detail oriented and can feel and notice the change in tone and behavior in the people around.
  • They may overreact to something they are unfamiliar with. They become panicky in noisy and crowded places.

Self Absorbed

  • This group of children are usually passive and need a lot of sound and music around to respond. They do not respond easily to people and objects around. These children seem to be self absorbed. They may appear to remain aloof from the humdrum activities of life.
  • These children have low concentration so they have to work harder. They are also content with their way of thinking and remain self absorbed in their own world of fantasies.

Defiant

These set of children want to defy all rules and regulations. Restrictions don’t work for them. Impositions upset them. These type of children tend to be argumentative and engage in power struggles. Unlike the self absorbed children, defiant children tend to get things the way they want and may prove to be successful in studies and work in future.
These children need to practice restraint.

Inattentive

These set of children are restless, hence they are inattentive. They flit from place to place and toy to toy. Both children who overreact and under react to stimuli are found to be inattentive.

Active/Aggressive

  • These type of children are highly impulsive. They act first and think later. Usually these children are healthy. These children fight a lot. They enjoy sports and other physical activities. They are enthusiastic but do not stick to things for long if there are too many impediments. These children need to be reflective and patient.
  • These grow up to be go-getters because they are doers in other words they are creative provided they practice restraint. These children respond to loudness.

Remember

Remember no children fit permanently into any of these groups. Children will be a mix of all those traits. To understand behaviors better, these ideal types are constructed. So parents need to be careful in dealing with their children. They should not be impatient with their children if they are slow in responding or have too less control over their motors.
